A parrot’s nutritional needs are alot like a human's nutritional needs.
Parrots should be introduced to a variety of different foods from an
early age to prevent the parrot from becoming a picky eater. A parrot
that eats a variety of foods is a happy, healthy and balanced parrot.
Make sure to provide fresh clean water several times a day since your
parrot will dirty the water constantly since it will bathe and soak
their food in it.
Vegetables should be 50-55% of your parrot’s daily diet since it
provides the best source of much needed vitamins and minerals.
Vegetables can be served in different ways depending on your parrots
taste some parrots like their vegetables raw or lightly cooked. Pellets
can replace vegetables if they can’t be offered. But we recommend that
your parrot eat more vegetables than pellets.
Fruits should be 5-10% of your parrot’s daily diet since most fruits
are high is sugar. Fruits should be given in small quantities and can
be given as treats. If you give your parrot too much fruit it might
fill up on it and not eat anything else.
Grains, seeds, cereals and breads should be about 20-25% of your
parrot’s diet. You can soak the cereal in warm water and the bread can
be soaked in some fruit/vegetable juice.
You can offer table foods; just make sure none of it is toxic, high in
fat or salty. This can be 20% of your parrot’s daily diet. You should
allow your parrot to eat with you and your family at dinner time since
in the wild they eat with the whole flock. This will help your parrot
feel like it's part of your family/flock.
